BLL is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 21 January 2009 and registered as a charity on 13 October 2009. The company was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the charitable company:
To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Beccles and the surrounding area the provision of a lido (open air swimming pool and recreation area) in the interests of social welfare and with the objects of promoting health to the public at large through access to healthy recreation and sports education and of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.
The objects were extended in October 2011 in anticipation of our acquisition and management of Beccles Public Hall:
To further promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Beccles and the surrounding area the acquisition and operation of other carefully selected assets in the interests of social welfare and with the objects of any or all of the following:
i) promoting health through access to healthy recreation and sports education;
ii) promoting the advancement of citizenship and community development through establishing each facility as a community run asset staffed by local people and volunteers where practicable;
iii) promoting the advancement of arts and culture through access to entertainment and exhibitions;
iv) promoting the preservation of historic buildings of interest and keeping them in fit condition for local people to use as part of the local heritage;
v) promoting the advancement of amateur sport through access to sports facilities and sports education;
vi) promoting the advancement of environmental protection and improvement through a commitment to green technologies and renewable energy wherever possible and practicable;
vii) promoting the relief of those in need, by reason of youth, old age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage wherever possible and practicable;
and in all cases to the public at large with the overall objective of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants.
